The Evansville-Vanderburgh County Area Plan Commission voted 8-0 against a rezoning request for a proposed Walmart Neighborhood Market and fuel station near the southwest corner of Millersburg and North Green River roads. The proposal sought commercial zoning for part of 4605 Millersburg Road and adjacent property.
Dozens of nearby residents submitted comments or appeared at the meeting in opposition to the development. The commission’s vote is a recommendation for denial, not necessarily the end of the case: because this is a county rezoning, it now goes to the Vanderburgh County Board of Commissioners, which has the final decision.

The proposal would bring a new Walmart Neighborhood Market and fuel station to a largely residential area on Evansville’s north side. THE STORY
Walmart proposed a Neighborhood Market with an affiliated fuel station near the southwest corner of Millersburg and North Green River roads. The project required rezoning part of the property from Agricultural (Ag) to C-4 commercial use.
Planning documents raised questions about compatibility with surrounding residential development, traffic and floodplain conditions. The proposal then went before the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Area Plan Commission, where commissioners voted 8-0 to recommend denial.
Because this is a county rezoning case, the Area Plan Commission does not make the final decision. The proposal proceeds to the Vanderburgh County Board of Commissioners.
